Too Sexy

Here is my dog Tip bumming around on the stairs.

What a hottie.

And here is the coolest picture I have of him (taken through glass), blasting through the snow in my dad's backyard.

Uncharacteristically intense!

So there we have Tip being Tip, and the picture I show people when I want them to think I have a supercool action-figure sheepdog and not a mentally challenged kitten in a dog's body.

This is my semi-subtle homage to Food Lady from Three Woofs and a Woo, and OMG I am disowning you all for not pointing me to this blog sooner. Border collies? Photography? I am there! I want to steal her life, honest. Some day when I have the time I'll work on my photography until my shots are actually presentable, and own a pack of wicked-cute Borders, and foster on the side; until then I am stuck with just Tip, photos taken through grimy glass, and old TWaaW posts, through which I trawl and love on Mr Woo like the crazy dog-stalker I am.

IN OTHER NEWS I got a strongly worded email from the Shih-tzu Club of America telling me that the Imperial Shih-tzu is not, actually, a purebreed dog. And I am not really sure what to do with that information except tell you all, in case somebody's been spreading the word behind my back that MoT totally thinks Imperial Shih-tzus are a breed. LIES. (Maybe they should forward that email to Sherry Carter, though, hmm?)

Speaking of, post on the much talked-about Shorkie coming up! For now, just look at the Woo. He's my new happy place.

Oooo. Interesting. Someday, when I'm sure I won't get in trouble for it, I'll share that letter I received from the AKC on Colonial Cockers.
Two things:
1) have you seen this? It's a little old, but somehow I missed it.
2) are you familiar with this blog? Lots of cute pics of all kinds of animals on what looks like a neat farm.

However! You're probably familiar with Jon Katz if you read, but if it's Border Collies and photography you want, get yourself comfy with a big cup of tea or bag of potato chips or whatever does it for you because it'll take you hours to go all the way back -
Here are his articles if you aren't familiar either. They're all about the farm pretty much, but mostly about his dogs, most of which are Border Collies. Ya know... smart, serious, working BC's who live on a farm with farm stuff and don't walk into walls. Not judging. Just saying. :) -

It's not Tip's fault a hay bale fell on his head when he was a puppy, if that is what you're insinuating. [huff] I bet he was a real little scholar before fate thumped the brain cells right out of him.

1) I have not seen that article. That's pretty neat!
2) Also neat! Especially since goats make me happy and hers are cute.

I've actually never heard of Jon Katz, which is embarrassing, because this stuff seems right up my alley. I'll have to get started sifting through everything - expect me to resurface in a few days...

(I sent a polite reply to the Shih-tzu club stating that Imperial Shihs being a breed is not a belief I hold nor have ever expressed. I get the feeling that this email was a carbon copy. It makes me wonder if someone from the club occasionally Googles "Imperial Shih-tzus" and sends this disproportionately distressed email to everybody who's mentioned it in passing. Strange.)

I bet you're right. Imperial Shih Tzus. I suppose they're like "King" Shepherds. Whatev.

Well, I'm glad to have introduced you to Jon Katz and the rest. I love his stories. Not an animal or photography genius but he was willing to take a chance and share his experience and growing pains in the process and I think it's cool. His photos have gotten much better too. Besides, who doesn't love a dumb dog in love with a sheep, and one of my favs, Henrietta, Chicken of Mystery? That said, he's not for the complete bleeding heart. I'm sure PETA hates him, but then again... that's not much of an insult.

Sorry, I had to come out of the woodwork for this one...

Please...anybody but John Katz.
From what I hear the man gives horrible advice:

For border collie reading I really prefer Donald McCaig or David Kennard

As I said, Jon Katz is NOT an animal genius. And he is not without controversy. He has made me cringe over the years. But I do admire that he's been open about his beliefs and his mistakes.
The decision to euthanize an agressive dog who has attacked people is not an easy one. There are people who don't want to euthanize any animal ever, even if it's the best thing for it. You see it with "rescues" all the time. Soemtimes, it's not very cut and dry and therefore it's the owner's decision to make and other people's to disagree with. It reminds me of that situation on Fugly last year where a couple horses were euthanized by a rescue when they were deemed unadoptable and then a couple of pre-teen girls wigged out and started a petition and slander on the internet against the rescue. Everyone eventually showed up on that thread to defend their position and just about every regular reader of FHOTD posted their opinion of the situation as well. There were almost as many opinions as there were posts. It's easy to judge when someone does something so clearly stupid or mean. Most things however, are more complicated.

Shoshannah, that list is hysterical! I especially love the last one!!! :)

Thanks Jean, I will approach Mr Katz's writings with a healthy amount of wariness. :)

Shoshannah: I love it! Especially the Lab Coat Retriever!
